FLEETWOOD CLOSES IT'S SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SERVICE CENTER

from Greg Gerber of RVIndustryNews

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Fleetwood RV has closed its Riverside service center, RV Industry News learned today.

But, the action has more to do with a decline in service needs in southern California than it is a reflection of a problem at Fleetwood, said Amy Coleman, director of marketing.

Unlike Fleetwood's Decatur, Ind., service center, Coleman said the Riverside facility was a smaller operation that generally handled overflow service for two larger California dealers: Giant RV and Mike Thompson RV Super Stores. Approximately nine technicians have been laid off, she added.

The company still has zone service managers working throughout the west coast who are authorized to bring RVs requiring out-of-the-ordinary service work directly to the factory for repair, Coleman said. Consequently, customers won't see any reduction in service, should they find their RVs in need of a major repair.

"With the market in a slow down, the west coast service facility was being under utilized and we felt is was wiser to reallocate the resources," she added.
