CCI CONTROLS IS CLOSED AND GONE

by Greg Gerber of RVeNEWS

SOUTH GATE, Calif. -- RV industry supplier CCI Controls has apparently ceased operation, RVeNEWS has learned.

The company supplied LP gas and carbon monoxide detectors for recreation vehicles. CCI Controls was involved in a high-profile suit in the 1990s regarding faulty equipment that resulted in the deaths of several RV owners. But the courts eventually dismissed the firm from the case.

Today, the firm's telephone and toll-free numbers has been disconnected. And the company's website at www.ccicontrols.com has been taken over by a group claiming to sell supplies to wiccans and witches.

COUNTRY COACH OFFICIALLY TERMINATES 460 FURLOUGHED WORKERS

by Greg Gerber of RVENEWS

JUNCTION CITY — For 460 Country Coach workers who have been out of work since mid-November, it’s official: Their jobs are gone.

The company late Wednesday notified employees who have been on furlough since the RV factory was idled four months ago that their jobs were being terminated. The company also notified the state Department of Community Colleges & Workforce Development.

“We needed to make sure people were duly notified of termination,” company spokesman Matt Howard said. “We certainly owe it to all our employees involved to let them know where they stand.”

Country Coach is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy and attempting to reorganize itself as a much smaller company. Last week, it began calling back employees to work on coaches that were partially completed.

Under its new business plan, Country Coach plans to complete about one coach per week. It has about 40 coaches in the pipeline. It expects to have about 100 workers on the job by next week. At its peak in 2006, the company had about 1,800 employees.

The average tenure of workers who were called back is seven years, said Howard.

Mark Anderson, who worked at Country Coach for more than nine years, most recently repairing tools in the factory, said he already knew where he stood when he was not among the workers called back. The termination letter, he said Wednesday, came as no surprise. However, he said the letter contained one piece of positive news for terminated employees: It says that the bankruptcy judge has authorized payment for vacation accrued in the six months before the company went into bankruptcy.

SOME PRODUCTION RESUMES AT COUNTRY COACH

Greg Gerber of RVENEWS posted on April 06, 2009 13:15
JUNCTION CITY, Ore. -- Workers returned to the Country Coach factory Monday to do something they hadn’t done for more than four months: build motor homes.

More than 60 employees were back at work, a number expected to reach 90 by the end of the week, company spokesman Matt Howard said.

“It feels good,” employee Mark Werder said as he attached a hose to a windshield wiper assembly. “It feels like a new beginning.”

The privately held company was able to re-open after a bankruptcy judge granted preliminary approval last week to a new financing deal between Country and Wells Fargo. Judge Albert Radcliffe authorized Country Coach to spend up to $2 million through the week of April 13, when a final hearing on the deal is scheduled. Wells Fargo released funds to the company on Thursday.

Country Coach is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, a legal process intended to give financially troubled companies breathing room from creditors while they re-organize their finances.
