Multilocation dealership La Mesa RV Center announced the closing of its facility in Sarasota, Fla.
According to a press release, the facility housed one of the largest air-conditioned indoor RV showrooms in the state. A fire broke out in the facility during the morning of Oct. 19, causing smoke damage to RVs and the building, which required certain repairs and remodeling in order to reopen. The repairs and remodeling have been delayed and the facility cannot currently be used for its intended purpose, necessitating the closure.
“We regret having to close our store in Sarasota,” stated Jim Walters, president of La Mesa RV, “but our priority is to service our current and future customers in a first-class manner. Unfortunately, the repairs required and the timing to make them to the Sarasota facility did not allow us to provide the level of experience or service we want our customers to encounter. With our nearby location in Fort Myers, Florida, we are more than prepared to handle Sarasota area customers so that they can continue to enjoy the RV lifestyle while having a positive contact with La Mesa RV.”
Walters added, “We feel Sarasota is a good area for us to be in and we hope to return when the right opportunity and location are available. We have offered employment positions to many Sarasota employees at one of our other Florida facilities where opportunities exist. We thank those employees that are not able to make the move for their service and dedication.”
La Mesa RV Center will continue to operate 11 sales and service locations across the country including three locations in the state of Florida in Fort Myers, Port Saint Lucie and Sanford in the Orlando area along with multiple outlets in Arizona, California and New Mexico. FOREST RIVER BUYS SUPREME INDUSTRIES SHUTTLE BUS ASSETS

Forest River Buys Supreme Industries’ Shuttle-Bus Assets

Forest River Inc. has reached a definitive agreement to buy the shuttle-bus assets of Supreme Industries Inc., a manufacturer of specialized commercial vehicles including truck bodies and specialty vehicles.
In December 2013, management announced Supreme would exit the shuttle-bus business and divest the associated assets, according to a news release. Supreme said its long-term strategy is to focus on its core work truck and specialty vehicle markets.
Net proceeds from the sale of assets are estimated to be about $7 million dependent upon sales of buses before to close. A modest gain on the sale is anticipated and the proceeds will be used to fund a series of topline growth initiatives, capital expenditures and margin expansion projects, according to Supreme. The transaction is expected to close within thirty days.
“We are pleased to have reached a mutually beneficial agreement for the sale of our shuttle-bus assets to Forest River,” stated Mark D. Weber, Supreme’s president and chief executive officer.
“The bus market has become increasingly competitive and this business has been unable to achieve our profitable growth objectives,” he added. “This divestiture allows us to concentrate our resources on growing our work truck, specialty vehicle and trolley businesses.”
Forest River Inc., an Indiana-based Berkshire Hathaway Company, manufactures a full line of RVs, transit buses, shuttle buses and tour coaches.
