RECALL
RV Business
Monday, February 12, 2007
In what amounts to a major recall, Elkhart, Ind., supplier Dometic Corp. announced late Monday (Feb. 12) that it is voluntarily recalling refrigerators that may pose a potential fire hazard. The affected two-door refrigerators, totaling 926,877 units, were manufactured between April 1997 and May 2003.
"Dometic is committed to offering RVers the best and safest in RV products," Brad Sargent, vice president of marketing for Dometic, stated in the release. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."
Of the recalled refrigerators, Sargent maintains in the release, "99.99% do not pose a danger to the owner."
The potentially affected refrigerators have the following model numbers: NDR1062, RM2652, RM2662, RM2663, RM2852, RM2862, RM3662, RM3663, RM3862 and RM3863. The units have serial numbers beginning with the following combinations: 713xxxxx through 752xxxxx, 801xxxxx through 852xxxxx, 901xxxxx through 952xxxxx, 001xxxxx through 052xxxxx, 201xxxxx through 252xxxxx, and 301xxxxx through 319xxxxx.
Notifications to OEMs, who will be expected to announce their own recalls to retail customers, started going out last Friday. Plans call for dealer notifications later this week, while a consumer notification process for owners with warranty registrations is to begin Feb. 19.
A rework kit for dealers will be available by mid-April.
Inquiries are being directed to a toll free telephone number, (888) 446-5157, or to www.dometicusa.com/recall.
